Abstract

In the present paper, the simulation and the monitoring of a CO2 commercial refrigeration unit serving a supermarket located in Northern Italy is presented. The unit consists of a booster compressor rack with parallel compression, with compressors arranged to provide both the cooling load (medium and low temperature) and all the thermal functions with one single unit: it integrates a heat exchanger for the air conditioning and two stages heat recovery, for sanitary hot water production and space heating. The monitoring data are used as boundary conditions to realize the numerical model of the refrigeration cycle, developed in steady-state condition, and calculate the hourly performance of the system across a year. The model is then used to evaluate the performance of alternative configurations and a different management of the heat recovery system.
